AMERICANA HIGHWAYS | Video Premiere: Dave Goddess Group’s “When You’re Happy”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Dave Goddess Group’s “When You’re Happy” from the group’s forthcoming release Once in a Blue Moon, out on on Feb 28, 2020 on Emotional Records. The record was co-produced by Dave Goddess and Konrad Carelli. Dave Goddess Group is: Dave Goddess on on lead vocals, guitars, and harmonica; Mark Buschi on bass and backing vocals; Tom Brobst on keyboards and saxophone; Chris Cummings on drums and backing vocals; Gary Gipson on guitars and backing vocals.

The video was directed by Kevin Goddess, with videographers Peter Gourniak and Craig Friebolin, editor Mike Goodenow and graphics by Dhimas Muniz. The video also features Emily Gibson as “Anna Lee,” Jake Brobst as “Our Hero,” and Bill Hartin as “the Judge.” In electrifying live footage interspersed with a pseudo stern divorce setting, the video mirrors the songs’ intention.

Dave Goddess Group precisely demonstrates that the best way to survive life’s dramas is with cathartic energy and a smile; especially when those dramas involve repeating the same patterns over and over again.

You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Sometimes we go for somebody that we just can’t get along with in the long run. We fight, break up, get back together, then do it all again. Memories are short and attractions are strong. When You’re Happy, I’m Happy is about a couple like that. He’s a loveable screw-up and she’s at the end of her rope. When you listen to the song, you can make up your own back-story. Hopefully it will work out for them.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that music can just be fun. It’s great to tackle big subjects and have insight about life, politics, love, whatever, but a little silliness and joy also goes a long way. Plus, I wanted to write a song that people could sing along to, so I put a lot of “na, na, nas” in it.–Dave Goddess
